Okuribito

English Title: Departures
Yojiro Takita, Japan, 2008, imdb
Review: 2.5 Uchuvas
Comment: It has a great great beginning!! but then it was soo soo soooooo sooooooo... mmmm... what word can I use.... maybe "cheesy"??!!! It's very disappointing that having such a great story you end up with such a terrible plot's development. What really got my nerves was that they played the game: "let's make them cry so they feel that the films has touched them" and in fact you cried a lot of times.... but I cried because the situation and the subject it self is sad ... ah! I also cry in the end for having waisted my time and tears!

Tokyo Monogatari

English Title: Tokyio Story
Yasujiro Ozu, Japan, 1953, imdb
Review: 4.0 Uchuvas
Comment: Hrishi (an Indian friend, or shall I say a beloved American?! ;-)) lent this film to me after writing a great comment that I posted last month. After reading his comment it was impossible not to be in love with the film even before watching it. To be honest, when I finished seeing it I wasn't very sure that I liked it a lot.  After a while and after re-picturing the film in my head I realized why the film was good.  I learned to appreciate the softness of a film. I learned what delicateness really means in films. I started to appreciate more the the absence of color. I love, about the story, how the characters were introduced; You only realized who they really are after a long while. Soft and delicate, two words to describe it. Don't see it if you don't like slow films.

Comment: I'm just taking some time to write this down as I deeply believe it's my responsibility to warn you about this "film". Please, if you have nothing to do at home and want to see it... Please, DO NOT. If you still have nothing better to do than wasting your time, give me a call and I either lend you a film or pay your ticket to go to your closest cinema. Please...I'm telling you... is better to do the washing up!!
Now that I did take the time to warn you about this film, I also want to include in this comment the title of the second film I have left before it was finished: "Canvas", please.......don't!

Yume

English Title: Dreams
Akira Kurosawa, Japan, 1990, imdb

Comment: I saw this movie soooo long ago but I remember so well that after watching the film I was totally in zen mood. I just love it. Be aware that if you are looking for a film, film ... this is not the one; this is more like a piece of art to be contemplated more than to be watched (does it make sense?)
