Man som hatar Kvinnor

English Title: The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo
Niels Arden Oplev, Sweden+Denmak+others, 2009, imdb
Review: 3.5 Uchuvas
Comment: I don't know what to say... it wasn't a bad film but when you've seen a similar stories so many times, it's kind of boring.... Let's say that the beginning is very good; it has a good plot, good acting and good suspense; but then, all the investigation happens so easily that is totally unbelievable. It felt like a "1+1" american film where you know that the sum will be "2". This film is an adaptation of an award winning book with the same title by Stieg Larsoon (a Swedish author who died in 2004). It's the first book of a trilogy. The other two books' adaptations will be released soon in US (the girl who played with Fire and The Girl who kicked the Hornets' Nest). I guess I'll see them although I'm not dying to...

Red Road

English Title: Red Road
Andrea Arnold, UK+Denamark, 2006, imdb
Review: 4.0 Uchuvas
Comment: It was a bit bad that I saw this film after watching "Gigante" just for the fact that they have similar characters performing the same job and "Gigante" was a bit boring so I thought I would feel the same about this film. But it turns out to be a very tough and strong film very well performed. The story is not told until very late, fact that I liked a lot in films as they make you wonder all the way through.

Efter Brylluppet

English Title: Afer the Wedding
Susanne Bier, Denamark+Sweden, 2006, imdb
Review: 4.5 Uchuvas
Comment: What else tonight but talking about weddings, relationships, tears, reunion, beginnings and endings. This film has it all together. It has great acting but more than anything it's a film full of emotions. I remembered that it touched me very deeply, I even keep crying for some days after I saw it. Nice film, fully recommended.

Festen

English Title: The Celebration
Tomas Vinterberg, Denmark-Sweden, 1998, imdb
Review: 4.0 Uchuvas
Comment: It's supposed to be a drama movie but tbh I just laugh a lot with the whole thing... what a "party"!!!! Sometimes I just think that the whole thing is an exaggeration after exaggeration!... but it's a great film... it's the kind of film that you need to be in the right mood to enjoy it.

Sult

English Title: Hunger
Henning Carlsen, Denmark, 1996, imdb
Review: 4.0 Uchuvas
Comment: I have to admit that this is my second comment on the film. I wrote a very foolish comment but deleted after reading IMDB's comments. I normally don't read them before posting my films but this time I was curious about why it has very good reviews as I didn't like it that much. I was happily surprise by the profound comments and after reading them I started to feel more sympathetic with the film. Yes, I agree that the actor is really good (he won 4 awards for his performance including Cannes). I didn't know, for example, that it's an adaptation of a book by Knut Hamsun ("book based entirely on his experiences of suffering, moral degradation, starvation and humiliation at the hands of the bourgeoisie of Oslo...") The film is very touching and makes me think how many people will die of starvation before admit their hunger. I like a lot how the director create the feeling of hunger all along the film... I guess it's very difficult to show AND perform that feeling! How will it be to write it!?

Idioterne

English Title: The Idiots
Lars von Trier, Denmark, 1998, imdb
Review: 1.0 Uchuvas
Comment: The only good thing that I remember about this film is that I went with at least 10 friends from University; after the first half part we couldn't stop laughing about the stupidity of the film; It's an icon film among us, that's why I end up loving the film to the point that I want to see it again to see if I like it better this time... who knows!

Breaking the Waves

English Title: Breaking the Waves
Lars von Trier, Denmark, 1996, imdb
Review: 4.0 Uchuvas
Comment: I read somewhere that this is the first movie of the women drama trilogy from Lars von Trier (+"Dancing in the dark" and then "Dogville"...what a trio!!! I couldn't say which one is better!) This film is such a depressing drama! I think I cried more with this movie than with the last scene of Dancing in the Dark (and I could say that I don't cry with movies easily). Emily Watson is just astonishing here!! I always thought that this was the first Dogme film, but apparently is not... (Dogme 95). Please don't see this movie if you are down (not a bit).
